The accessibility of digital technology often falls short for users with disabilities. The A(I)BILITIES project seeks to address this gap by leveraging generative artificial intelligence to create digital solutions tailored to individual needs.
ASSIST Software and Stefan cel Mare University from Suceava commit to address this issue in the groundbreaking project A(I)BILITIES - Generative Artificial Intelligence for Personalized Interactive Solutions for Users with Disabilities, which aims to change the game by leveraging the power of generative AI.
At its core, this project seeks to harness advanced AI technologies to create adaptive, personalized, and interactive digital solutions tailored specifically for individuals with various disabilities. By utilizing generative AI, the project aims to overcome the limitations of current accessibility options and provide more inclusive and effective user experiences.
Project Target Groups and Beneficiaries
- Users with Disabilities: Individuals with motor (e.g., reduced dexterity, spinal cord injuries) or sensory impairments (e.g., visual impairments, low vision).
- Organizations Serving People with Disabilities: Non-profit organizations and advocacy groups focused on improving accessibility and quality of life for people with disabilities.
- Developers and Technology Companies: Software developers and companies interested in integrating accessibility solutions into their products and that require accessible interfaces.
- Healthcare and Rehabilitation Centers: Institutions providing services to individuals with disabilities, looking to enhance their accessibility offerings through advanced AI solutions.
- Educational Institutions: Schools, universities, and other educational organizations seeking to provide accessible learning environments for students with disabilities.
- Public Sector Organizations: Government agencies and public institutions aiming to comply with accessibility regulations and improve digital inclusivity.
Objectives:
Developing generative AI technology: The project focuses on using state-of-the-art AI models to automatically generate user interfaces that adapt to the specific abilities and preferences of users with disabilities. These AI algorithms will learn from user interactions, continually improving and personalizing the user experience.
Enhancing personalization and interactivity: By creating algorithms that provide highly customized experiences, the project ensures that solutions adapt over time to better serve individual user needs. Interactive features such as voice commands, gesture recognition, and other accessible input methods will be incorporated to enhance user engagement.
Improving accessibility: The project aims to make digital solutions accessible to users with a wide range of disabilities, including motor and sensory impairments. It addresses specific challenges such as reduced dexterity, visual impairments, and other accessibility barriers, ensuring that everyone can benefit from the digital revolution.
ASSIST Software's role:
ASSIST Software is the coordinator of the A(I)BILITIES project. Furthermore, ASSIST is responsible for creating adaptive user interfaces that cater to the specific needs of users with disabilities, incorporating advanced features like voice command and gesture recognition, as well as the research and development of backend and training of AI models. Additionally, ASSIST manages data collection and analysis, ensuring that personalization algorithms are continuously refined. They also lead the testing and validation phases, using user experience metrics to assess and enhance the solutions.
A(I)BILITIES is funded nationally through PN-IV and submitted with project ID PN-IV-P7-7.1-PTE-2024-0434. The approved grant value for this project is 1.393.550,00 RON.
