The Start of a Great Event
One of the biggest software development contests for students in Suceava ended successfully on the 9th of April. However, ASSIST Tech Challenge was more than an event for university students. During the three weeks of competition, we were pleased to see innovative minds at work, cleverly thought-out projects and the highest level of team spirit.
The 42 participants, all of them undergraduates from Stefan cel Mare University of Suceava, split up into 11 well-balanced teams and worked hard on a full-stack hotel automation app, all while being mentored by the ASSIST Tech Challenge jury.
The teams had to be made of 3 to 5 contestants specialized in backend development, frontend development, QA and/or web design so that the app’s features would function properly under the given parameters.
One week for developing a plan, two for implementation
Over a two-week period, using all the learning material and experiences at their disposal, the contestants implemented their plan. The final phase included a presentation and a Q&A session with the ASSIST Tech Challenge jury, which was an invaluable learning experience.
The ASSIST Software employees that were mentors and judges in the competition were impressed with the creativity, enthusiasm and sheer drive of the students, their innovative ideas earning them special prizes by the end of the contest.
The best of the best-received Hero Awards
Three Hero Awards went to those that stood out for their discipline, knowledge, and ideas. Well-deserved congratulations went to Alexandru Damian, of the “CaffeineOverflow” team for his QA work on his team’s app. Dragos Todoroscean secured the Frontend Hero Award while working with the “Republic of Kekistan” team. The best Backend Developer title went to Cristina Parasca of TPBP Devs’ team.
Although the awards ceremony was held online, cheers and applause were still given when the main prizes were announced. The three finalist teams were praised for their excellent performances and the remaining participants were encouraged to attend future ASSIST Software contests since their skills in and passion for software development were beyond question.
Who were the big winners?
As is the custom, the third-place winners were announced first. The prize went to the “TPBP Devs” team together with the 1000 lei reward. A remarkably close second place on the judges’ list was the “Republic of Kekistan” team, which managed to secure the 2000 lei reward, but the best award, the first place and 3000 lei cash prizes, went to the “CMV” team. Their enthusiasm and optimism, innovative ideas and dedication were appreciated by the jury who expressed their desires to see them work together on other projects as well.
ASSIST Software extends its thanks to each team for not only proving that there is notable talent at the University of Suceava, but also for making ASSIST Tech Challenge one of the biggest and most exciting software competitions in the region.
Where innovation found its home
Special thanks also go out to the Stefan cel Mare University professors for encouraging their students to push beyond their limits, get out of their comfort zones and dive deep into their pool of creativity with code. As a company, ASSIST often finds itself relearning how young minds can reconstruct even the idea of innovation if given the chance. Because of this, ASSIST continues the string of contests for students, by organizing ASSIST Code Challenge bi-monthly. All students are recommended to follow ASSIST Software’s news sections as well as our social media pages for more information on the ongoing activities and available opportunities for internship.
