Internships and Information at Open Doors ASSIST 2022 - ASSIST Software - Suceava

Studying computer science and IT at Stephen the Great University of Suceava comes with its perks. Besides learning from great professors and being around like-minded people, the USV students can also attend a special event that ASSIST Software organizes yearly.

Open Doors ASSIST focuses on the needs of the students because we know that the thought of entering the job market can be a little bit daunting. Everybody knows software development internships help, but students also want to understand what they are signing up for.

What do students need?
  1.  Simply put, information.  When it comes to boosting career prospects, students are often unsure about where to start because they do not fully comprehend how the job market and software companies work. By organizing Open Doors ASSIST, ASSIST Software provides students with valuable information such as explaining the Agile methodology, the roles in a software development company, and what working with international clients entails.

  2.  A well-structured and mentor-led internship is key to a perfect career start and an internship should be neither scary nor stressful. At ASSIST Software, we offer such internships, and we have a passion for learning, which translates nicely into approaching professional development, questions, and mistakes. Students were able to apply for an internship during Open Doors ASSIST. A staggering 250+ students took up the challenge, confirming that ASSIST Software is a friendly and sought-after workplace.

Learning about the software departments

Students had the unique possibility to stroll between booths that showcased projects from different departments. They could win prizes and ask questions to our backend, frontend, QA, Research & Development, Design, EU project, Gaming and Simulations, and Mobile specialists.

We were happy to see a constant influx of students interacting with each booth’s representatives and discussing innovation, industry trends, and the most confusing aspects of a particular technology. The questions were great!

Learning from experienced software engineers

For those who needed a deeper dive into specific subjects, our speakers held presentations in the Nicolae Botan amphitheater.

Presentation Agenda:

  • Official Opening
  • Super Skills for a Super team. Career options in tech
  • Intellectual curiosity: the key to a better you
  • Mobile Apps: Become a Jedi Master by two mobile Superheroes
  • Innovation at its finest: HoloLens, Drones & some AI magic
  • Awards & Closing Ceremony

With titles such as the ones mentioned above, the auditorium was always full of students eager to learn and ask questions.

How to start your software engineer career

For students who were ready for a 1-on-1 talk about their careers, HR specialists and department representatives met with them and discussed possible career options over a coffee.

These Book Café discussions helped over 55 students choose their best career path.

Open Doors ASSIST had robots and prizes

Pepper the Robot was present at Open Doors ASSIST for the first time. He talked to students, took selfies, and danced, thus showcasing the future of robotics and technology. And while Pepper was entertaining guests, a lucky applicant for an ASSIST Software internship managed to win an Oculus 2 VR headset, the grand prize of the event.

All in all, Open Doors ASSIST was an event defined by internships, information, and innovation that students loved, giving it an overall 4.78 rating out of 5. We were happy to see robots, professors, students, specialists, and engineers all come together for a brighter future where the local community flourishes thanks to technology, creativity, and hard work.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is ASSIST Software's development process?

The Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) we employ defines the following stages for a software project. Our SDLC phases include planning, requirement gathering, product design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.

2. What software development methodology does ASSIST Software use?

ASSIST Software primarily leverages Agile principles for flexibility and adaptability. This means we break down projects into smaller, manageable sprints, allowing continuous feedback and iteration throughout the development cycle. We also incorporate elements from other methodologies to increase efficiency as needed. For example, we use Scrum for project roles and collaboration, and Kanban boards to see workflow and manage tasks. As per the Waterfall approach, we emphasize precise planning and documentation during the initial stages.

3. I'm considering a custom application. Should I focus on a desktop, mobile or web app?

We can offer software consultancy services to determine the type of software you need based on your specific requirements. Please explore what type of app development would suit your custom build product.

  • A web application runs on a web browser and is accessible from any device with an internet connection. (e.g., online store, social media platform)
  • Mobile app developers design applications mainly for smartphones and tablets, such as games and productivity tools. However, they can be extended to other devices, such as smartwatches.
  • Desktop applications are installed directly on a computer (e.g., photo editing software, word processors).
  • Enterprise software manages complex business functions within an organization (e.g., Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)).

4. My software product is complex. Are you familiar with the Scaled Agile methodology?

We have been in the software engineering industry for 30 years. During this time, we have worked on bespoke software that needed creative thinking, innovation, and customized solutions.

Scaled Agile refers to frameworks and practices that help large organizations adopt Agile methodologies. Traditional Agile is designed for small, self-organizing teams. Scaled Agile addresses the challenges of implementing Agile across multiple teams working on complex projects.

SAFe provides a structured approach for aligning teams, coordinating work, and delivering value at scale. It focuses on collaboration, communication, and continuous delivery for optimal custom software development services.

5. How do I choose the best collaboration model with ASSIST Software?

We offer flexible models. Think about your project and see which models would be right for you.

  • Dedicated Team: Ideal for complex, long-term projects requiring high continuity and collaboration.
  • Team Augmentation: Perfect for short-term projects or existing teams needing additional expertise.
  • Project-Based Model: Best for well-defined projects with clear deliverables and a fixed budget.

Contact us to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each model.
