ASSIST Software has officially initiated the certification process for ISO/IEC 42001, the world’s most comprehensive global standard for artificial intelligence management. We are proud to be the first company in Romania to pursue this certification, as it validates our commitment to developing AI solutions with responsibility and traceability. We have taken this step as part of our strategic vision for our AI practices to conform to internationally agreed-upon standards. That also triggers us to prepare ourselves for heightened regulatory demands towards AI.

What is ISO/IEC 42001, and how does it affect AI engineering processes?

The Artificial Intelligence Management System certification ISO/IEC 42001 was published in 2023 as a framework designed to help companies develop, deploy, and manage AI systems in a way that puts transparency and security first. As AI technologies keep making their way across all industries, the standard gives useful guidance on how to deal with risks like bias, errors, or unintended consequences. Besides regulatory compliance, this standard allows us to guarantee our clients and partners that our AI solutions balance innovation with reliability, transparency, and risk management

The benefits for our clients

  • Trust: a guarantee that our AI solutions comply with strict standards of ethics, transparency, and safety;

  • Compliance-ready: we align with international regulations and the upcoming EU AI Act

  • Consistent quality: robust processes that guarantee reliability and improvement over time;

  • Security: we use state-of-the-art security measures to protect your data and ensure the integrity of our AI solutions;

  • Risk reduction: proactive governance to identify and address AI-related risks early on;

  • Transparency: we provide detailed reports on the performance of our AI solutions, including the results of our quality checks;

  • Scalability: we can scale our AI solutions to meet your needs, whether you're a small business or a large corporation.

This certification process, validated by CERTIND SA, attests that we meet this standard and provide smarter, safer, and more reliable AI solutions that help our partners innovate with confidence.

ASSIST Software's expertise in artificial intelligence

In recent years, ASSIST Software has expanded its expertise in AI development through numerous learning initiatives and hands-on projects. With the launch of the ASSIST AI Center in July 2024, we also set up a dedicated department specializing in AI development to better support this process.

Our AI team works in industries such as healthcare, beauty, manufacturing, travel, and business automation. We use AI in a variety of ways, from creating predictive models that transform data into meaningful insights to developing tools with computer vision that analyze visual elements.

We also back up our expertise with individual industry-recognized AI/ML certifications. Several of our colleagues hold certifications such as “Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Fundamentals”, “Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate (AI-102)”, and have completed Machine Learning specializations. These records represent part of the actual skills our team brings to every project. Beyond this, we promote an AI-aware culture through internal workshops and provide ongoing learning resources accessible to all employees. Thus, we ensure the ASSIST Software team is confident and ready to work with the latest AI technologies.

What is next for us in the process of global AI engineering approval?

The Artificial Intelligence Management System certification process takes several months and involves multiple steps:

  • Gap analysis, which consists of reviewing possible current AI practices against the standard requirements;

  • Implementation, which requires putting in place new policies, controls, and training to meet the standard;

  • Audit, where an accredited third-party reviews the company’s AI management system to ensure it fully meets ISO/IEC 42001 requirements.

With regulatory frameworks such as the ISO/IEC 42001, certifications in AI will become increasingly important. By pursuing this process first in Romania, ASSIST Software positions itself as a leader ready to meet evolving governance demands and to provide high-quality software services on a global level.

We also view this initiative as an opportunity to encourage wider adoption of responsible AI practices within Romania’s tech community and even further. Sharing our progress aims to support the development of a more trustworthy, competitive AI ecosystem in the country, positioning Romania as a credible and innovative player in AI development.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can you integrate AI into an existing software product?

Absolutely. Our team can assess your current system and recommend how artificial intelligence features, such as automation, recommendation engines, or predictive analytics, can be integrated effectively. Whether it's enhancing user experience or streamlining operations, we ensure AI is added where it delivers real value without disrupting your core functionality.

2. What types of AI projects has ASSIST Software delivered?

We’ve developed AI solutions across industries, from natural language processing in customer support platforms to computer vision in manufacturing and agriculture. Our expertise spans recommendation systems, intelligent automation, predictive analytics, and custom machine learning models tailored to specific business needs.

3. What is ASSIST Software's development process?

The Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) we employ defines the following stages for a software project. Our SDLC phases include planning, requirement gathering, product design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.

4. What software development methodology does ASSIST Software use?

ASSIST Software primarily leverages Agile principles for flexibility and adaptability. This means we break down projects into smaller, manageable sprints, allowing continuous feedback and iteration throughout the development cycle. We also incorporate elements from other methodologies to increase efficiency as needed. For example, we use Scrum for project roles and collaboration, and Kanban boards to see workflow and manage tasks. As per the Waterfall approach, we emphasize precise planning and documentation during the initial stages.

5. I'm considering a custom application. Should I focus on a desktop, mobile or web app?

We can offer software consultancy services to determine the type of software you need based on your specific requirements. Please explore what type of app development would suit your custom build product.

  • A web application runs on a web browser and is accessible from any device with an internet connection. (e.g., online store, social media platform)
  • Mobile app developers design applications mainly for smartphones and tablets, such as games and productivity tools. However, they can be extended to other devices, such as smartwatches.
  • Desktop applications are installed directly on a computer (e.g., photo editing software, word processors).
  • Enterprise software manages complex business functions within an organization (e.g., Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)).

6. My software product is complex. Are you familiar with the Scaled Agile methodology?

We have been in the software engineering industry for 30 years. During this time, we have worked on bespoke software that needed creative thinking, innovation, and customized solutions.

Scaled Agile refers to frameworks and practices that help large organizations adopt Agile methodologies. Traditional Agile is designed for small, self-organizing teams. Scaled Agile addresses the challenges of implementing Agile across multiple teams working on complex projects.

SAFe provides a structured approach for aligning teams, coordinating work, and delivering value at scale. It focuses on collaboration, communication, and continuous delivery for optimal custom software development services.

7. How do I choose the best collaboration model with ASSIST Software?

We offer flexible models. Think about your project and see which models would be right for you.

  • Dedicated Team: Ideal for complex, long-term projects requiring high continuity and collaboration.
  • Team Augmentation: Perfect for short-term projects or existing teams needing additional expertise.
  • Project-Based Model: Best for well-defined projects with clear deliverables and a fixed budget.

Contact us to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each model.
