TwinShip Advances Digital Twin Innovation in Valencia
At ASSIST Software, we participate in European research and innovation projects spanning multiple domains, from cybersecurity and digital governance to maritime digitalisation and smart industry. As a technology partner, we design and implement advanced digital solutions – including AI-driven systems, Large Language Models (LLMs), data platforms, and Digital Twin architectures – while supporting integration, scalability, and innovation management within complex European consortia.
One of these initiatives is the TwinShip project, which focuses on developing advanced digital solutions to enhance operational efficiency, situational awareness, and coordination between ship and shore environments. By working closely with ports, maritime stakeholders, and research institutions, the consortium validates its tools in real operational settings, supporting the digital transformation of the shipping sector.
The Valencia General Assembly: Aligning for the Future
Against this backdrop, from 10–13 February, the vibrant city of Valencia served as the backdrop for the TwinShip consortium meeting, hosted by Fundación Valenciaport, bringing partners together to review progress and align next implementation steps. Over the course of the meeting, consortium members reviewed technical progress, validated key solutions, and aligned their next steps, reinforcing TwinShip’s contribution to a more sustainable and digitally enabled shipping sector.

ASSIST’s Technical Edge: AI and 3D Visualization in Action
Within the TwinShip project, ASSIST contributes to several key technical components designed to enhance data-driven decision-making in the shipping sector. Our colleagues, Alexandru Patraucean and Cristi Vrabie, present in Valencia, provided the consortium with a comprehensive overview of our technical progress.

ASSIST’s core technical contributions:
- Route Optimization Dashboard: An intuitive interface for maritime operators that allows users to visualize and compare routing scenarios to minimize fuel consumption and emissions.
- LLM-Based Weather Router: An interactive chatbot interface that enables users to input voyage parameters via natural-language prompts, which are then processed by optimization algorithms, displaying proposed routes on the dashboard.
- Advanced 3D Visualization: High-fidelity representations of vessel data through interactive 3D models of vessels, engine components and onboard systems, enhancing monitoring and decision support.
- Platform Testing & Validation Framework: An important contribution involving the rigorous testing of the VesselAI digital platform. Our team has designed and presented a comprehensive testing plan focused on ensuring the functionality, performance, interoperability, and reliability of the system's Digital Twin models.

The collective commitment to quality assurance across the entire consortium is what allows us to transition confidently from individual ship technology to large-scale, networked maritime ecosystems.
Looking forward
The TwinShip project is charting a course toward the “Ports of the Future.” Building on our established technological breakthroughs, the consortium is now shaping a new Horizon Europe proposal that transitions from vessel-centric research to integrated port and logistics solutions. By leveraging our proven Digital Twin tools and cross-partner expertise, this next phase will synchronize ship-to-shore data management to optimize maritime efficiency.
