While academic knowledge is a powerful foundation, the Open Doors ASSIST event, held on November 6, 2024, took a transformative step beyond traditional learning. It invited students from the University of Suceava into an immersive experience designed to prepare them for careers in the fast-evolving AI and software industry.

Now a tradition at USV, Open Doors ASSIST is far from a typical career event. Each year, the theme is carefully crafted to address pressing industry shifts that will shape students’ futures. This year’s focus? Empowering students with a deeper understanding of AI’s role in reshaping their career paths.

One of the highlights was the lineup of talks from ASSIST’s industry experts, which gave students a clear picture of the innovation happening right now in the field. Kicking off the talks was Gabriel Tironeac, VP of Innovation, who explored how creativity and critical thinking are essential in an AI-driven world. Alexandru Strujac, Deputy of Product Design, and Andrei Hilote, Python Technologies Specialist, led an engaging session on maximizing AI through prompt engineering, opening students' minds to the power of precision in AI interactions. Lucian Cucos, a Microsoft Technologies Specialist, shared his perspective on integrating data with AI in modern system design - a future-focused approach essential for software professionals.

Students were introduced to bigger-picture concepts like AI’s potential to drive predictive decision-making, streamline processes, and build systems that anticipate user needs. As the software industry increasingly relies on AI-powered solutions, these insights equip students with an edge in understanding and leading transformative change.

The panel discussion, “Building an IT Career in the AI Age,” offered a rare opportunity for students to engage in an open Q&A with ASSIST’s industry leaders and USV faculty. Moderated by Victor Jeman, Head of Frontend Development, the panel featured Andrei Viziteu, Head of AI; Andronic Tudor, Python Developer; Ionela Lungu, HR Manager; and Ovidiu Schipor, Associate Professor at USV. Each panelist brought a unique, unfiltered perspective on the skills and challenges awaiting tomorrow’s tech professionals.

With Andrei Viziteu addressing the technical trends reshaping AI careers and Tudor Andronic highlighting the importance of practical, hands-on experience, students received advice on bridging their learning with real-world demands. From the HR side, Ionela Lungu shared insights into the skills that matter most to employers—like adaptability, collaboration, and resilience—qualities that are essential for a thriving career in any fast-paced tech environment. Ovidiu Schipor urged students to combine theoretical knowledge with applied practice, stressing that the ability to embrace complexity and ambiguity is crucial for success in tech. The panel’s collective guidance offered students a balanced perspective on navigating their careers with confidence and agility.

Career success is often built on strong mentorship, and at Open Doors ASSIST, students had the chance to receive one-on-one career guidance from experienced professionals. These sessions, held in the Book Café, connected students with specialists eager to share insights on emerging trends, skill development, and the realities of the tech industry. What would you have asked specialists like Irina Petrariu, VP of Research and ML Specialist, or Diana Barculescu, Head of QA?

Mentorship is central to the ASSIST Academy approach, providing students with guidance that bridges academic learning with real-world applications. It’s this commitment to nurturing adaptable, skilled professionals that makes Suceava a “hidden gem” destination for businesses seeking reliable, forward-thinking tech partners in Romania.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is ASSIST Software's development process?

The Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) we employ defines the following stages for a software project. Our SDLC phases include planning, requirement gathering, product design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.

2. What software development methodology does ASSIST Software use?

ASSIST Software primarily leverages Agile principles for flexibility and adaptability. This means we break down projects into smaller, manageable sprints, allowing continuous feedback and iteration throughout the development cycle. We also incorporate elements from other methodologies to increase efficiency as needed. For example, we use Scrum for project roles and collaboration, and Kanban boards to see workflow and manage tasks. As per the Waterfall approach, we emphasize precise planning and documentation during the initial stages.

3. I'm considering a custom application. Should I focus on a desktop, mobile or web app?

We can offer software consultancy services to determine the type of software you need based on your specific requirements. Please explore what type of app development would suit your custom build product.

  • A web application runs on a web browser and is accessible from any device with an internet connection. (e.g., online store, social media platform)
  • Mobile app developers design applications mainly for smartphones and tablets, such as games and productivity tools. However, they can be extended to other devices, such as smartwatches.
  • Desktop applications are installed directly on a computer (e.g., photo editing software, word processors).
  • Enterprise software manages complex business functions within an organization (e.g., Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)).

4. My software product is complex. Are you familiar with the Scaled Agile methodology?

We have been in the software engineering industry for 30 years. During this time, we have worked on bespoke software that needed creative thinking, innovation, and customized solutions.

Scaled Agile refers to frameworks and practices that help large organizations adopt Agile methodologies. Traditional Agile is designed for small, self-organizing teams. Scaled Agile addresses the challenges of implementing Agile across multiple teams working on complex projects.

SAFe provides a structured approach for aligning teams, coordinating work, and delivering value at scale. It focuses on collaboration, communication, and continuous delivery for optimal custom software development services.

5. How do I choose the best collaboration model with ASSIST Software?

We offer flexible models. Think about your project and see which models would be right for you.

  • Dedicated Team: Ideal for complex, long-term projects requiring high continuity and collaboration.
  • Team Augmentation: Perfect for short-term projects or existing teams needing additional expertise.
  • Project-Based Model: Best for well-defined projects with clear deliverables and a fixed budget.

Contact us to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each model.
