TwinShip Partners Gather in Athens to Accelerate Maritime Digital Transformation
The 2nd and 3rd of September marked a key milestone for the TwinShip project as partners gathered at the National Technical University of Athens for the first General Assembly, to review progress and set directions for the next phase.
Advancing the TwinShip Platform
Day one, highlighted advancements across all work packages, ranging from digital twin framework requirements and vessel data collection to prototype development, technical innovations such as weather routing applications, operational decision support systems, and large-scale demonstration plans.
In addition to the technical progress updates, partners also addressed cross-cutting aspects such as dissemination and exploitation strategies, and general project management aspects.
The second day focused on a technical workshop led by the Danish naval architecture and marine engineering company KNUD E. HANSEN, exploring EPCD-based (Energy Performance and Conceptual Design) vessel design for net-zero emissions and Level 3 digital twins. The consortium also addressed the future adoption of the VesselAI platform, exploring its potential beyond the scope of TwinShip.
Driving Innovation: ASSIST Software’s Role in TwinShip
At the General Assembly, ASSIST Software introduced, among others, Route Optimisation wireframes, showcasing an intuitive interface designed for maritime operators. As part of the broader TwinShip platform – a unified Digital Twin (DT)-enabled Decision Support System (DSS) built on advanced AI and machine learning – these wireframes are positioned to help users effortlessly visualize and compare routing scenarios aimed at minimizing fuel consumption and emissions.

Moving forward
Work on the TwinShip project continues at full pace, with partners refining technical developments and integrating lessons learned from previous activities. Efforts are focused on ensuring the Digital Twin-enabled platform meets operational needs, sustainability targets, and end-user requirements, while preparing for large-scale demonstrations and real-world applications.
The next strategic checkpoint for TwinShip will be the General Assembly in Valencia, Spain, where partners will review progress on the Digital Twin-enabled platform and align on the roadmap toward large-scale demonstrations and real-world implementation — marking another crucial step in the project’s journey toward greener, smarter shipping.
We remind you that TwinShip – Integrated Digital TWIN Framework to enable Green SHIP – is a project funded under Horizon Europe - HORIZON-CL5-2024-D5-01-15: Advanced digitalisation and modelling utilizing operational and other data to support zero emission waterborne transport, with Grant Agreement ID number 101192583.
