ASSIST Tech Challenge Competition for Students register your team

In 2021, ASSIST Software organized the first edition of a competition for students called ASSIST Tech Challenge, and the response exceeded all expectations.

Fourteen teams registered for the event and took up the challenge of creating a full-stack app in only three weeks. Since then, we have spoken to the participants and tried to determine what made this competition appealing.

The 2022 edition of ASSIST Tech Challenge is finally here, powered by the freshly released project, ASSIST Academy! As teams register again for the contest, we will go through the main reasons we discovered.

ASSIST Tech Challenge Competition for Students

1. The challenge itself

Believe it or not, students like to be challenged, and the concept of this competition is of interest to many students who are keen to show their abilities. The theme of the app they need to create is not known from the get-go but announced on the first day of the competition. The mystery and the three-week implementation time are part of the overall charm.

2. They get support from specialists in their domain

Challenges are fun, but nobody wants to feel completely in the dark if they’ve hit a blockage of any kind. Therefore, ASSIST mentors are assigned to each team. These ASSIST employees help with advice, answer all types of questions and supervise the entire app creation process. With a consultant that is a specialist in software development, teams can rest assured that they are not alone, and somebody can point them in the right direction.

3. Teamwork plays a huge role

Teamwork is unquestionably one of the most critical factors in the ASSIST Tech Challenge software competition. By working together, students can share the load and learn valuable information about themselves, not just their field of study.

To take part in the competition, teams must have a minimum of three and a maximum of 5 people working on each app. Backend and frontend developers must also work hand in hand with testers. A designer would be a great addition if the team could recruit one. Developing a full-stack app with others teaches one about the work ethic and methodology used in software development.

This working environment might also provide great insight into the other abilities individuals in each group have. Communication, leadership, and good time management skills also come into play.

Don’t have a team? No problem.

Whoever does not have a team to work with can still apply. ASSIST Software will create groups for them so that nobody willing to compete is excluded from the contest.

4. The BIG prizes

Unsurprisingly, the big cash prizes are among the reasons why students find the motivation necessary to form teams and register.

This year, the winners will be able to take home:

Everybody says a student must work their way up, and ASSIST Software is ready to open the door to marvelous opportunities. Even students who do not win might get an invitation to start an ASSIST Software internship or get a dream job straight away in a company that values its employees, offers competitive salaries, and focuses on growth and well-being. Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is ASSIST Software's development process?

The Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) we employ defines the following stages for a software project. Our SDLC phases include planning, requirement gathering, product design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.

2. What software development methodology does ASSIST Software use?

ASSIST Software primarily leverages Agile principles for flexibility and adaptability. This means we break down projects into smaller, manageable sprints, allowing continuous feedback and iteration throughout the development cycle. We also incorporate elements from other methodologies to increase efficiency as needed. For example, we use Scrum for project roles and collaboration, and Kanban boards to see workflow and manage tasks. As per the Waterfall approach, we emphasize precise planning and documentation during the initial stages.

3. I'm considering a custom application. Should I focus on a desktop, mobile or web app?

We can offer software consultancy services to determine the type of software you need based on your specific requirements. Please explore what type of app development would suit your custom build product.

  • A web application runs on a web browser and is accessible from any device with an internet connection. (e.g., online store, social media platform)
  • Mobile app developers design applications mainly for smartphones and tablets, such as games and productivity tools. However, they can be extended to other devices, such as smartwatches.
  • Desktop applications are installed directly on a computer (e.g., photo editing software, word processors).
  • Enterprise software manages complex business functions within an organization (e.g., Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)).

4. My software product is complex. Are you familiar with the Scaled Agile methodology?

We have been in the software engineering industry for 30 years. During this time, we have worked on bespoke software that needed creative thinking, innovation, and customized solutions.

Scaled Agile refers to frameworks and practices that help large organizations adopt Agile methodologies. Traditional Agile is designed for small, self-organizing teams. Scaled Agile addresses the challenges of implementing Agile across multiple teams working on complex projects.

SAFe provides a structured approach for aligning teams, coordinating work, and delivering value at scale. It focuses on collaboration, communication, and continuous delivery for optimal custom software development services.

5. How do I choose the best collaboration model with ASSIST Software?

We offer flexible models. Think about your project and see which models would be right for you.

  • Dedicated Team: Ideal for complex, long-term projects requiring high continuity and collaboration.
  • Team Augmentation: Perfect for short-term projects or existing teams needing additional expertise.
  • Project-Based Model: Best for well-defined projects with clear deliverables and a fixed budget.

Contact us to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each model.
