Kick-off Meeting of the EveryFish Horizon Europe Project
Wed, 08 Feb 2023
The R&D department at ASSIST Software has embarked on a new challenging 3-year journey with the EveryFish consortium, which is coordinated by SINTEF Ocean.
We are proud to be one of the technical partners in this Horizon Europe project that aims to develop technological solutions for the automatic registration and reporting of catch data collected from fishing vessels. This will enable fishers and governments to ensure that activities align with local regulations and don't lead to overfishing. Furthermore, the collected data will generate added knowledge and insights for future research, conservation, and governance activities.
The consortium met in Trondheim, Norway, on the 1st and 2nd of February 2023 to mark the start of the project. The meeting was hosted by SINTEF Ocean and provided an excellent opportunity for partners to meet or reconnect. Mrs. Nila Petralli, the EU Project Officer representing the European Commission, was also present and provided the consortium with valuable information related to project implementation.
On the first day of the meeting, partners reviewed the established work packages and the assigned roles within the consortium. They investigated technological solutions for automatic catch recording, specifically AI (Artificial Intelligence) modules and algorithms, as well as traceability systems based on Distributed Ledger Technology. Furthermore, data collection and validation activities in European case fisheries were detailed. These case studies include pelagic fisheries, mid-scale and large-scale demersal fisheries, and recreational fisheries. Other discussions revolved around large-scale data analysis and anomaly detection, data collection optimization, and the science-policy-industry workshops envisaged within the project.
During the second day, aspects related to project dissemination were tackled. Then participants broke into smaller groups to discuss specific matters related to the assigned work packages, setting up the first steps in implementing the project.
The EVERYFISH Kick-off meeting concluded with a visit to the Machine Vision, Machine Learning, and Robotics Lab and the Norwegian Centre for Plankton Technology at SINTEF Ocean's SeaLab in Trondheim.
We remind you that EveryFish - Digital transition of catch monitoring in European Fisheries - is a project funded by Horizon Europe - HORIZON-CL6-2021-FARM2FORK-01-11: Digital transition supporting inspection and control for sustainable fisheries (IA) program, with Grant Agreement ID number 101059892.
